Backyard “Beauty” – In Progress

I have an update on the backyard! Remember in this post I talked about landscaping and doing something else to the backyard? Well, I am happy to report we are making progress! We still need to do some more landscaping and tackle our grass issue (or lack of grass). When we bought the house we paid extra for a screened in porch, which I love. Only downfall is that it doesn’t provide enough space for my wicker furniture AND a table. We decided to extend our patio! We still need to add mulch and get a table but we are making progress and it looks great! Thanks to the hubby and his father, they had the spot dug out and ready for concrete!

I am very excited to have an outdoor space! Now we just need a table and chairs! Do you have a backyard patio/deck? What improvements will you be making to your backyard this summer?

Packing List

The time has arrived! I need to start packing this week for our trip up to New York. We will be gone for 8 nights, 9 days so I needed a list to help me organize the giant suitcase that will be needed. Luckily my sister-in-law just moved to the next car seat size and we can borrow her old one. Yippee! I don’t need to bring the car seat or the base. One less thing to take up space! My friend is letting us borrow her high chair, pack-n-play, bottle warmer and some toys. So far, here is my list:

  • PJ’s

Baby On A Plane

Waiting in line to board, finally get on the plane but have to deal with the long ass line of slow people taking their sweet ass time to put their belongings in the overhead bin, finally squeeze into the seat by the window, look up and there it is…..a Mom walking down the aisle headed toward my seat wearing a baby Bjorn containing a drooling, crying, spitting baby! AHHHH a baby on a plane is the worst! Yes, I will admit, those were my thoughts as I am sure everyone experiences this agony at least once in their life.

The irony of it all is that this will be ME next weekend!!! I have a new-found respect for parents that travel with kids. You better believe that no one on that plane feels more agony than the parents who are trying their best not to disturb the other passengers. When we first booked our trip I worried about what other people will be thinking the second we step onto that plane with her. But you know what…I don’t give a F$#@! LOL. And to be honest, how can anyone not smile at this:

Have you ever traveled with a baby or toddler? How did it go? Did you have anyone rudely ask you to “keep it down”? I will be doing a post next week about what I will be packing for M!

Mother’s Day Bliss

Happy Mama’s Day to all the Mom’s out there! Being away from family has been tough, especially during holiday’s and special days like Mother’s Day but this year was special for me seeing as its my FIRST Mothers Day. I remember as a kid always wondering why we don’t have a “Daughter’s Day” and my Mom would always say “every day is daughter’s day sweetie”. Now I can relate and totally understand!

It was nice to sleep in and wake up to my hubby saying “Happy Mother’s Day” and seeing a huge grin on Mikayla’s face. That is the best part of my day! Having her smile at me whenever I say “good morning” is the best way to start the day! We had some friends in town visiting and they got me a gift certificate to Massage Envy! AHHHHHH yessss! Can’t wait for that one hour of blissful peace and body rubbing! We went downtown and had lunch at the Southend Brewery which I would NOT recommend. I have eaten there four times now and have been disappointed each time. Not sure why I keep thinking “next time will be different” because it never is. This will not be posted in my Charleston Favorites!

My hubby is amazing and got me this beautiful ring! I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! It’s a little big but I will be getting it sized at my jeweler in Albany at the end of the month.

I am truly blessed to have such an amazing husband and daughter and don’t know what I would do without them. I am looking forward to Father’s Day next month so I can spoil him back 🙂

Wine & Dine Date Night!

Rob and I enjoyed our first date night this past Saturday since January! It’s amazing how fast the time goes and you realize how long it has been since going out and enjoying a night out without baby in tow. We are fortunate to have met some fabulous friends on our street that were nice enough to come and watch Mikayla while we enjoyed a night out (thanks Matt & Vanessa!)  We waited until Mikayla was down for the night (around 7:30).

Our friend recommended a great bar to try for drinks called the Cocktail Club downtown. It was A W E S O M E!! A hidden gem downtown that I would have never found if it wasn’t for the recommendation from our friend. It has old Charleston charm with modern touches. Located on the second floor, they have a main bar area, separate lounge areas and even an outdoor patio. It has great ambiance and a good selection of beverages.

What We Drank:

C: I had a fantastic Cosmopolitan. I have had my fair share of bad cosmos but this was perfect.

R:  Antipasto Martini. Said it was “eh, ok”….a little too sweet for him.

NEXT UP…DINNER  at Charleston’s finest steakhouse, Halls Chop House!

This place is amazing! We have been here once before and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Charleston. The wait staff is very friendly and the owner and his son always greet you at the door and thank you for coming! Southern Hospitality at its finest!

What We Ate:

C: Glass of Riesling, caesar salad, 8oz. filet with béarnaise sauce, mashed potatoes

R: Glass of Pinot Noir, caesar salad, prime rib, mashed potatoes, asparagus with hollandaise sauce

We had a great time and it was nice to finally get out and enjoy each other! I would like to say that we will have a date night at least once a month but that might include M in tow. Maybe we can aim for a date night without M every other month. We are traveling home to visit family at the end of May and we will DEFINITELY be having LOTS of date nights while we are there! 🙂

What does your favorite date night out consist of??

Nominated For A Versatile Blogger Award!

I am so excited that my friend Meghan over at Ratnam Residence, has nominated my blog for the Versatile Blogger Award (VBA)! Here are the VBA rules, courtesy of the VBA Blog:

  • Thank the person who gave you this award. That’s common courtesy.
  •  Include a link to their blog. That’s also common courtesy — if you can figure out how to do it.
  •  Next, select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly. (I don’t know 15 blogs so my list is a bit smaller)
  •  Nominate those 15 (or how many you have) bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award — you might include a link to this site.
  •  Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.

A BIG thanks to Ratnam Residence for the nomination! I have enjoyed reading all about Meghan’s life in Boston! She has a great blog so be sure to check it out! Next, things about myself:

Seven Things:

  1. I HATE watching people brush their teeth! I know, very random. I can’t stand the site of saliva and seeing it makes me gag.
  2. Before I had Mikayla I wanted 3-4 kids, now I think 2 will do just fine!
  3. I have never broken a bone (knock on wood)! I played volleyball in HS and was (still am) very clumsy so I am shocked that I haven’t!
  4. I am OBSESSED with 90’s music. I love the 90’s station on pandora!
  5. My dream trip is to Bora Bora and Fiji. I love to travel to tropical places and this is a dream of mine.
  6. I am terrified of spiders. Yes, I hate all bugs but spiders are the worst! Since moving South we can now add cockroaches to the list! EWWW.
  7. I have the best poker face. I like to play practical jokes on people, especially in my office and I am the best at hiding them! No one ever knows it was me 😉
Below are links to some great blogs I follow and have nominated for the VBA!

Hope you enjoy all of these blogs as much as I have!

Mikayla – 5 Months

I am a little behind on this post since she turned 5 months last weekend…oops! I still cannot believe she is 5 months already! I have a feeling I will be saying that every month! Below are some pictures and stats!

Weight: About 16 1/2 lbs.  Height: 25″ (totally guessing)

Size: Just started size 3 diapers!  Size 6 months in clothes. I think she will move to 9 month pj’s pretty soon.

Eats: She eats stage 1 food twice a day and has 5 bottles of formula at 7 oz each. She LOVES her food! She has oatmeal with fruit in the morning and oatmeal with a veggie in the evening around dinner time. She eats every 3 – 3 ½ hours and I really hope this moves to 4 hours and 4 bottles soon.

Sleep:  FINALLY sleeping through the night! YAHOO! Well, pretty close. She goes down between 7 and 7:30 and wakes up between 5:30 and 6. She will take a bottle and go back to sleep. For the most part she is a great sleeper. We usually put her to bed after her last bottle and most of the time she is awake and will fall asleep within 5-10 minutes.

Favorite and least favorite food: She HATES peas! I have tried to mix them with something else but she knows. She loves sweet potatoes!

Milestones: She has two teeth on the bottom! She loves to roll over on her belly and “fly”. She is very close to sitting up on her own. We usually sit behind her in case she topples over but for the most part, she can sit unassisted. Not much of a talker yet so I am still waiting for that!

Looking Ahead: I am very excited for her to start talking more and start crawling within the next month or so.
