Walking, Weight Loss and Will Power

Three topics to share today. First up….Walking.

I have had a goal of walking during work and 3-4 days a week at home. It is difficult to stick to the walking at home schedule since the hubby’s work schedule varies every week. His trips average 1-3 nights during the week. My goal is to 1. continue walking during work, even those days that get over 100 degrees (days this hot I only walk around once) 2. Try to walk more during the week at home. This presents a challenge since the hottest time of the day seems to be right when I get home at 5:00. I can suck up the heat but I don’t want peanut to have to suffer through it. It seems the best time to walk is around 7-7:30 which is her bedtime so that doesn’t work out. Maybe early morning on the weekends will have to do until the temps cool off a bit.

My Walking Buddy! (pic taken at 6:30 this morning) **side note: it poured yesterday and the backyard where I usually throw the ball for Sadie is a swamp. Needless to say, I had to get out and walk her this morning so she could do her business and get some energy out.

2nd topic….Weight Loss

I haven’t blogged much about my weight loss goals, mainly because I was scared to commit to anything. The hubby has a current weight loss goal of 10 lbs and it makes it much easier for me to lose weight when we do it together. For the longest time I was stuck at 9 lbs! The nagging nine to lose to get back to my pre-baby weight. I am happy to report I am halfway there! I have 5 lbs to go! Now the main thing is keeping it off once I lose it! I dropped 4 lbs pretty quickly recently and I contribute it to a number of things…cutting back on carbs, eating more healthy, and pushing myself harder at the gym. My goal is to continue eating well, increase my walking, workout twice per week at the gym, and do a crossfit workout once a week with my friend.

3rd topic….Will Power

I struggle with this! I have always had a sweet tooth and have to resist eating chocolate after dinner. Unfortunately, my will power fell by the way side when I was pregnant which resulted in gaining 45 lbs! My hubby has some excellent will power and can say no to just about anything. I need to really really try hard to work on this. To help me, I have hung my designer jeans in the closet for me to see everyday. I can get these on and zipped but they are VERY tight in my legs. This will serve as inspiration to say no to the chocolate. However, I am a realistic person and can’t (and quite frankly don’t want to) cut this out completely. Every once in a while a treat isn’t a bad thing 🙂

Yoga @ Home

Alright y’all, I must share this awesome yoga DVD with you! I am not one for working out at home since I get a much better workout at the gym, but this DVD is fantastic!

Jillian Michael’s Yoga Meltdown! There are 2 levels on the DVD, each 30 minutes long and include a warm up and cool down. I am still on level 1 which provides some good strength training.  I usually do yoga twice a week at home and its great because I can go upstairs for 30 minutes and get a workout in without being too far from M and the hubby. I highly recommend it!

My Own Worst Critic

I have been meaning to do a personal post about my self image for a while now. Unfortunately, I am not confident enough to post a full body picture like my friend Kelly @ Baby W Is On The Way, who by the way looks fantastic! Go Kelly! Although I am not brave enough to post a picture right now, perhaps I will post a before and after once I reach my goal weight. 

Have you noticed that no matter how many people tell you “you look great” you still don’t believe it? Whether you have had a baby or not, there will always be something you don’t like about your body.  I step on the scale and I still don’t like where I am at. I never thought I would be this critical of myself. My friends say to give myself a break, I just had a baby 4 months ago but that’s easier said than done.

It is extremely difficult to get to the gym during the week. Most of the time I just want to get home and spend time with the hubby and peanut.  At times I even feel guilty going to the gym after work when Mikayla has been in daycare all day. It’s also hard with Rob traveling so much. I never imagined how childbirth would transform my body and change my self image.  Don’t get me wrong, I knew it would be different and I would need to work hard to get my body back BUT I didn’t know it would have such an impact on the way I feel about myself.

Today I change work on changing how I feel about myself.  Here are my goals to feeling more confident and positive about the body I have now:

Self Image Goals:

  • Say “thank you” when my husband compliments me and really start to believe him
  • Every time I get critical of myself, stop and think about how amazing Mikayla is
  • For every negative thought I have when I look in the mirror, think of 2 positive thoughts

Weight Loss Goals

  • Current weight = 151 lbs. Pre-baby weight = 140 lbs….11lbs to go
  • Gym twice a week. Saturday and/or Sunday and 1 day during the week
  • Attend at least one class at the gym each week. Today I will be going to a 45 minute spin class
  • Continue yoga at home 1-2 days per week
  • Continue walking during my lunch break
  • Improve eating habits and decrease daily calorie intake to 1500 calories
