Camera Purchased!

I am super excited to announce I have made the investment and bought a Nikon D5100!I think I might start taking landscape and nature photos and see if I am any good at it! This will fulfill idea number 3 on my hobby list I wrote about here. It will be great to take pictures of Mikayla and capture those moments that come and go so fast that my current camera NEVER catches. I will start posting some of the photos I take and you can let me know what you think!

Have you ever bought any photos, whether just the image or framed images, on etsy.com? This is my favorite website and you can find just about ANYTHING on here! Maybe if I am good with my camera I can open an account and try selling them! Or maybe I am getting ahead of myself 🙂

Please Go To Sleep

We had an interesting sleeping non sleeping encounter with Mikayla Saturday night. Usually she is a good sleeper. Down between 7 and 7:30 and some nights she falls asleep with her bottle and goes right down, other nights she rolls around in the crib for ten minutes until she falls asleep.  It really varies. She will wake between 5 and 6, take a bottle and go back to sleep for another hour. Saturday into Sunday was a completely different situation and has left me and the hubby stumped as to why.

We heard her crying at 9:30…yes, 9:30 only 2 hours after she went to bed. After a few minutes I went in and she was crying but her eyes were closed. Then she stopped and was fine. This went on for the rest of the night. Every hour she would cry, yell, grunt, etc. for a few minutes but still be asleep. This of course, woke us up every hour. We ended up sleeping in separate rooms for a few hours just to get some sleep. The guest room is next to her room so the hubby went in there first and then I followed. Every time I would start to drift off she would start with the noises! I am a very light sleeper and wake to just about anything. She has a fan in her room to drown out cars and such (we live on the corner and we have a train) and that helps me to sleep as well. Finally she was up for good around 6. I fed her and she went right back to sleep…pretty quickly and slept for 2 more hours!

She is taking antibiotics for an ear infection and is feeling much better. Maybe her ears still hurt and she kept waking up from that? Maybe her top teeth were bothering her? Was she having bad dreams all night? I just don’t know. Luckily last night was much better. We didn’t hear a peep from 7:30 to 6.

Should we nix the monitor so her noises don’t wake us? She is down the hall so I would imagine when she is really awake and hungry we would hear her. I do have this awful fear of someone breaking in her room (her window is on the first floor) and taking her and if the monitor isn’t in there, we wouldn’t hear it. I know…I am paranoid!

Has anyone else experienced this or have a guess as to why this happened?

Have a Hobby?

A little bit about me:  I have a Bachelor’s degree in business management and I am a financial analyst for a government contracting company. Not exactly what I thought it would be but it will do for now. I have been doing some thinking and wanted to share with y’all and get your thoughts and feedback. Ever feel like you need a “thing” or a “something” to go to when you need a little me time? Like a hobby or passion for something? I must admit that I do not have a hobby nor anything that I am good at. Ever feel like you have zero talent? Some people are naturally gifted creatively and can take amazing photographs or build things from scratch. My hubby is very talented with woodwork and has his own space in the garage. He builds stuff all the time and it looks great. I wish I had a creative bone to create something of my own. I always see ideas for crafts or housing projects that someone created and wish I could come up with something similar!

I guess a start would be to write out a list of things I would enjoy doing and try to make something out of that list.  Some friends of mine have something they do on the side that they love, such as flipping houses, selling jewelry, making crafts, sewing, etc. I need to get thinking and try to come up with something! Some people might say blogging is a hobby but I am not as avid of a blogger as a lot of people out there.

Here is my list of things I like and things I could be interested in (very random):

  • Jewelry/shoes – what girl doesn’t like this!?
  • Makeup – tried selling Mary Kay once and it was NOT for me.
  • Photography with nature scenes – really need a new camera.
  • House decorating – if I had an unlimited amount of money, my house would look like something out of a magazine. For now, I do a little at a time.
  • Animals – I volunteered at an animal shelter after college and loved it.
  • Gardening – I love flowers! Problem is….I don’t exactly have a “green thumb” hence why I hired a landscaper to do the work.
  • Baking – I have one of these bad boys and its awesome! I have only used it a few times. I am afraid to experiment with new recipes because I have no will power and will eat everything I bake!
  • The Beach – not sure what could come of this one…lol.

The biggest obstacle is trying find the time! I work full-time and then come home to a 7 month old. So this would be something I could do after she goes to bed and/or on the weekends. It’s hard to do much during the week since the hubby travels and his schedule varies each week.

There you have it! Any suggestions or ides for me? Do you have a hobby or something you enjoy doing and are good at? I would love to hear your thoughts!

Have a Happy 4th of July!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Balls

Happy July! I can’t believe its July already…especially since my tan is seriously lacking for July….Anyways….I found a yummy baking recipe I wanted to share with y’all! My two favorite things are chocolate and peanut butter so this recipe is perfect for me!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (1 bag) milk chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • powdered sugar or red sugar for coating/sprinkling

Instructions

In a medium sauce pan over low heat, melt together the chocolate chips, cream, and butter until the chocolate is just about fully melted, stirring constantly. Stir in the peanut butter and continue stirring over low heat until fully melted.

Pour into an 8×8 baking dish and refrigerate for 2 hours (I used a 9×9 pan since I didn’t have an 8×8)

Remove from the refrigerator and use a cookie scoop to scoop out balls of the chocolate mix. After you’ve scooped out all of the chocolate, roll each ball between your hands to shape it. Sprinkle with the red sugar or roll in powdered sugar. Store in the refrigerator.

Makes about 15 truffles, depending on the size of cookie scoop you use. I used a medium scoop.

These would be great to serve at a party or bring as a dessert. Enjoy!

Recap

Hello blog friends, long time no talk post. Thanks to everyone for commenting and encouraging to keep up the posts! I do appreciate all of the feedback! 🙂 This post is two in one. I will recap our trip to NY and do a six month stat on M.

NY Trip

If you remember in my post about traveling with a baby, I was nervous, anxious and scared to travel with Mikayla. I think every parent probably envisions the worst possible scenario in their mind. I guess the up side to that is you are prepared if the worst does happen. We had a direct flight from Charleston to La Guardia and it was about 2 hours. Our flight left at 6:00am. We got Mikayla in her car seat at 4:45 and headed to the airport. She was awake but not cranky or hungry (yesssss). We managed to make it to the gate problem free and fed her first bottle of the day at the gate. Once on the plane she was such a ham and loving all the attention!  Just as we started to taxi she was ready to go back to sleep and was a tad cranky. It is very hard to get her comfortable in such an awkward upright position! She fussed for about 10 minutes then slept for about 45 min. Overall, not bad! The trip home wasn’t as good BUT there were TONS of infants on the plane! I have never seen so many kids on a plane before. Needless to say, at least one child was crying the majority of the time so she fit right in when she got cranky :-). Overall, I would say she was a champ!

The trip was long and involved too much driving! My parents are two hours from Rob’s parents so we split our time. After driving to see everyone (parents, grandparents, friends, etc.) we were exhausted by the end of the trip and were so happy to be home! Mikayla had a blast meeting all of her aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.

Six Month Stats

This is long overdue! Mikayla will be seven months on the 29th! I can’t believe how fast she is growing! She is now crawling and its amazing to watch her crawl everywhere and see how excited she gets just roaming around.

Weight: 19 lbs.  Height: 27 1/4″ 91st percentile for both

Size:  3 diapers.  Size 9 month in clothes, some 9-12 month.

Eats: She eats stage 2 food three times a day and has 4 bottles at 6-7 oz each. She is starting to pick up food from her tray such as, puffs and cut up fruit.

Sleep:  About the same schedule as five month stats. Bed around 7-7:30 and up between 5-5:30.

Favorite and least favorite food: Still hates peas! Seems to enjoy everything else.

Milestones: Lots of milestones since five month stats! Sitting up, rolling over, talking, and now crawling! I hope to post a video of this soon!

Looking Ahead: Very curious to see what month 7 will bring! I am sure she will be crawling all over and getting into much more than she does now!

Thanks for hanging in there and being patient with me. I will post some fun topics in the near future. I have baking recipes and house updates to share so stay tuned!

Bear with Me

Hi blog friends…long time no posting. I have a bit of writers block and need to find the motivation to start blogging again. I am contemplating deleting my blog all together but haven’t made the final decision just yet. I am going away for the weekend and will think about what I want to do. In the mean time, if you would like Bach’s by the Beach to continue…I would love to know! Sometimes I feel (as I’m sure many bloggers also feel) as if no one reads my blogs or enjoys reading my blogs. So if you chime in with your thoughts, I would greatly appreciate it!

Cheers,

CB

  • What type of blogs do you like to read?
  • What topics interest you the most?
  • What would you like to read about on my blog?

Looking forward to hearing from y’all!

Backyard “Beauty” – In Progress

I have an update on the backyard! Remember in this post I talked about landscaping and doing something else to the backyard? Well, I am happy to report we are making progress! We still need to do some more landscaping and tackle our grass issue (or lack of grass). When we bought the house we paid extra for a screened in porch, which I love. Only downfall is that it doesn’t provide enough space for my wicker furniture AND a table. We decided to extend our patio! We still need to add mulch and get a table but we are making progress and it looks great! Thanks to the hubby and his father, they had the spot dug out and ready for concrete!

Before/In-progress:

After/Progress:

I am very excited to have an outdoor space! Now we just need a table and chairs! Do you have a backyard patio/deck? What improvements will you be making to your backyard this summer?

Packing List

The time has arrived! I need to start packing this week for our trip up to New York. We will be gone for 8 nights, 9 days so I needed a list to help me organize the giant suitcase that will be needed.
